For documents issued by Institutions from countries that are not members of the European Union, the authentication of these documents should be carried out by the Portuguese embassy or consulate in the student's home-country or by the Hague Apostille Convention.

Furthermore, if they are not written in Portuguese, Spanish, French or English, they must be translated into Portuguese by a recognized translator.

Affixing the apostille is applicable to any public document that needs to be presented in any signatory country of the Convention. The Apostille is issued by the competent authority of the country where the document comes from.
